Chin Surgery
A small chin or jaw may create the illusion of a poorly defined or aged neck. Reshaping the chin with bone surgery or implants (genioplasty) will yield a more proportionate appearance.
The extent of the procedure depends upon what changes are desired and what your surgeon deems appropriate. This surgery is most often performed on an outpatient basis under a local, intravenous, or a general anesthetic. Depending upon the extent of your surgery, and with or without facial surgery, the procedure usually takes from one to four hours. Compressive garments that support your neck are required for approximately 1 week. After surgery, there will be some discomfort that is controlled by medication. Swelling and skin discoloration are common and usually subside within a few weeks.
